Having got an Android phone and not having an iPhone, I'd like to share things that I find that may help you. Currently I'm using a HTC Desire on Orange. Using the normal software Orange UK supply. Current version is 2.2 Froyo.
Bluetooth & In Car Problems
I have a Sony MEX-BT5100 Bluetooth Head unit in my car. My previous phone, the great Sony Ericsson W995 easily connected every time to my Sony Head unit. Both for hands free calling and music streaming via A2DP. It still have all my music ripped from CD's to my memory card and really like this head unit having 30 or so albums in my pocket.
My HTC Desire is hit and miss when it comes to connecting to my Sony MEXBT5100 Head unit. Normally it will connect fine to Hands free but not music streaming. Going into the Bluetooth settings on the phone and long click on XPLOD would reveal phone and music tick boxes. Both are ticked. So I untick Music, then re click it. Straight away the Desire connects to the Sony MEXBT-5100 headunit. Works like a charm. Also by pressing button 6 on the head unit TWICE, would start playing the music.
Now I have learned that if I DO NOT turn BT (Bluetooth) off on my Desire that even the next day, the phone would connect happily to the head unit both A2DP audio music streaming and Hands free Telephone calling!
So to sum up. Get it connected then DO NOT switch of Bluetooth, it will work fine without any problems, It will simply connect to your head unit when you get into the car. I don not use a dock, I simply leave the phone in my pocket.
Hope this helps someone!
